The Recreation Therapist is responsible for planning and implementing activity services, which involves defining and implementing treatment goals as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
The Recreational Therapist also utilize their specific area of expertise and provide continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling to patients.
DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:

Conducts therapeutic group activities and documents participation and interventions in the patient's medical chart.
Provides therapy in the form of dance movement, art, recreational, individual, substance abuse and group psychotherapy as needed, per licensure, registration and/or certification.
Demonstrate responsibility for observation and application of sound judgement in patient's physical and mental condition.
Assess patient needs and facilitate activities that are appropriate to age, development, needs, and interests of the patients served.
Communicate changes in patient's condition, including medical or behavioral, with nursing staff.
Ensure timely documentation of interventions and ensure interventions are based on the patient's treatment plan.
Works collaboratively with all treatment team members to create a treatment environment that supports patient care and customer service.
Apply appropriate crisis interventions and ensure interventions are appropriate for patient's level of care.
Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
Ability to get assigned work done in an acceptable manner, in the time allotted, and with minimal prompting.
Assist patients in achieving their optimum level of independent functioning.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This job operates in a clinical setting.
This role routinely requires interaction with patients, documentation, and utilization of standard office equipment.
This role routinely utilizes de-escalation techniques to address patients that are engaged in aggressive behavior or acting out.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to exercise self-control in potentially volatile situations such as being verbally or physically confronted in a threatening or aggressive manner; must be able to work and concentrate amidst distractions such as noise, conversation, and foot traffic; ability to handle interruptions often and be able to move from one task to another; must be flexible and not easily frustrated in dealing with differences of opinions.
Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, and be able to perceive the attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, and/or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of the fingertips.
Ability to express and exchange ideas via spoken work during activities in which they must convey detail or important spoken instructions to others accurately, sometimes quickly and loudly.
Ability to express and exchange ideas via written assignments effectively and accurately.
Hearing to perceive the nature of sound with no less than 40 db loss @ Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz with or without correction; ability to perceive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound.

Ability to occasionally handle hazardous/infectious waste.

TRAVEL:
The Recreational Therapist is an onsite position.
All job-related duties are performed on hospital grounds.
REQUIRED EDUCATION / LICENSING REQUIREMENTS/
Experience:
Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance.
Master's degree preferred.
Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) preferred.
CPR certification and CPI are required prior to patient interaction.
Minimum of (1) year of related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness.
